Less Is More

Okay, so as some of you know, a year ago on July 27th, 2024 my apartment complex caught on fire. Myself and about 200 other residents — kids, parents, pets — were all displaced and subjected to a summer of news cameras, housing uncertainty, gaslighting, and visits to the Red Cross. About a month after the fire, I was sitting in my room, empty,
just thinking, “Dang, I spent a year
repeating this mantra, ‘I can do more with less’, and now I got nothin’.” God be funny. It made me laugh, too.

I spent that day thinking about being a kid…my childhood friends. We had even less back then but, we were so much happier. We were so excited to get grown tho, racing to the rat race. We really undervalued the simplicity in our lives. Before the internet. Before the materialism. Before we really knew what death was and before we were disconnected by the phones we begged our parents for.
I was missing that. And I miss y’all.
I miss when we were broke but content.
I wish we would’ve known that not having things
was all we needed.
